Brazil – Cohort Selection and Baselining for a Circular Waste System
April 15, 2026

Location: Brazil

YEAR: 2024 – 2025

Funder(s): Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC)

Co-funded by the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC), Delterra ran a competitive selection process across 30+ Brazilian municipalities to identify cities ready to improve organic waste management. Three cities were selected: Arapiraca, Contagem, and Florianópolis.

Using the Global Methane Initiative’s SWEET Tool, Delterra established GHG emissions baselines and diagnostic assessments, then developed city-specific composting roadmaps and practical plans for organic waste diversion. Learning sessions and cross-city exchanges were convened since January 2024 to foster peer learning and capacity building.
