Food Waste in Cities: a Blueprint for Climate Action

We are proud to share a new report from WWF, Delterra, and the Global Methane Hub, providing practical evidence for one of the fastest and most cost-effective climate solutions available today: Reducing food waste in cities can dramatically cut methane emissions.

The report explores how this transformation can happen in practice. Together with WWF, we implemented a systemic approach to food waste reduction and methane mitigation in Jayapura and Merauke, Indonesia. The report highlights that the missing ingredient is not innovation, but investment. With the right financing, cities can transform wasted food from a climate liability into an opportunity for people, nature and local economies.

Building Markets for Recycled Household Flexible Plastics

As Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) policies continue to advance across the United States, including California’s ambitious SB54 targets, Delterra, in partnership with Eunomia, is helping bring together the insights, partnerships and market solutions needed to build recycling systems that can deliver real, lasting impact.

Expanding EPR legislation will dramatically increase the supply of recycled household flexible plastics. But collection alone will not be enough to achieve recycling targets. Unless new end-use markets are developed – supported by economics that go beyond simply reaching price parity with virgin resin – the recycling system for these materials cannot scale. Our recent research, developed through the Demand Accelerator Program, identifies the most promising applications and market opportunities to build the demand needed to create a scalable market for recycled household flexible plastics. This initiative was made possible with generous support from Amcor and Kraft Heinz. Stay tuned, this research will be released publicly very soon.

WRAP Report: Catalysing Systemic Action Against Plastic Pollution

Unless we act now, global plastic pollution is on a trajectory to triple by 2040. Reducing global mismanaged plastic waste by 90% by 2040 is an ambitious but achievable goal.

The WRAP publication “Catalyzing Systemic Action Against Plastic Pollution: A Roadmap for Purpose-Driven Funders,” is now available. The report highlights the urgent need for collaborative, system-wide action to tackle plastic pollution and accelerate scalable solutions for a circular economy – especially calling upon philanthropy and other catalyzing stakeholders to get involved. Delterra is proud to have contributed to this important work and to have some of our in-country case studies and projects featured.

Accelerating Action on Organic Waste and Methane

Reducing organic waste is one of the fastest and most effective opportunities to address climate change. We are excited to extend our partnership with the Global Methane Hub, helping Argentina and Indonesia implement scalable solutions to divert organic waste from disposal and reduce methane emissions. By improving waste systems, increasing organic waste recovery and supporting cities to scale what works, we can deliver meaningful climate benefits while strengthening local systems and creating lasting benefits for communities.
