We are an environmental non-profit working on the ground to build more circular material systems across the globe.
We work with governments, residents, waste workers, waste management organizations and private companies on solutions that keep waste out of landfills and the environment and improve lives.
Today, we are reimagining and redesigning recycling systems in Indonesia, Argentina, Brazil and North America. In the future, we plan to scale our operations to other countries struggling with the growing waste crisis across Asia, the Americas and Africa.
We rapidly test, learn, and iterate our solutions on the ground to create proven impact in the real world that affects real lives, because changing systems means first understanding the human and economic dynamics at the heart of it all.
From technology to implementation partners, corporations to governments, entrepreneurs to activists, we team up with those who are best placed to drive and scale change for maximum efficiency and impact.
To create change that matters, we look at the broader circular economy and refocus our resources as needed. We think about how to make the greatest impact from end to end, designing scalable solutions for real people.
An inclusive approach is essential to creating effective human systems as well as contributing to a more just and equitable society. We unite diverse perspectives and lived experiences, from global business leaders to local community members.
We bring strategic and analytical rigor to every problem we solve. We bring creativity and persistence to consistently deliver results in the face of broken systems and inevitable setbacks.
Launched in 2018, Yayasan Delterra in Indonesia has been working in Bali to transform their waste management and recycling systems. To date, we have worked with more than 30 villages, reaching up to 80% recycling participation and enabling the operation and scaling of one of Indonesia’s largest organic waste facilities. We have since successfully used our organics methodology to support work in Papua.
Delterra’s work in Latin America began in Argentina with a pilot in Barrio Mugica, Buenos Aires’ largest informal settlement. That work was scaled to Olavarría and informed waste system transformation across a cohort of cities representing nearly 20% of the country’s population.
Today, our focus is expanding in Brazil, where we have assessed waste systems in 30 cities, deep-dived into three priority locations, and piloted solutions - including in São Paulo - to increase the recycling of flexible plastics from post-domestic waste.
North America is newest addition to our regional profile. Through our Recycled Flexibles Demand Accelerator, we're working with industry leaders to co-develop responsible end-markets for flexible plastics in North America. We are leveraging our learnings from building markets in other countries to rapidly identify and test new end-market applications. This will include both real-world pilots testing PCR into new applications, coupled with detailed analysis to define financial and other requirements to unlock at scale.
