GIRO – Integrated Waste Management of Olavarría
April 15, 2026

Location: Argentina

YEAR: 2020 – 2025

Funder(s): Alliance to End Plastic Waste, Amcor

A nearly five-year citywide waste transformation project with the City of Olavarría, funded by the Alliance to End Plastic Waste and Amcor. Delterra redesigned the city’s collection system (separate days for recyclables, organics and mixed waste), co-created the GIRO brand and behavior change campaign, and designed and built a composting plant with 10-ton/day capacity. The project achieved a 10x increase in recycling rates (from 1 to 10 percent), integrated the informal waste sector and was co-designed with the municipal team to ensure lasting local ownership.
