Methane as a greenhouse gas is over 80 times more potent than CO2 and one of the leading causes of climate change.
Waste is the third highest source of human-caused methane emissions, and nearly half of global municipal solid waste is organic. But responsible management methods often aren’t economical, leading to climate and environmental harm.
To ensure viable economics of organic waste composting and anaerobic digestion, we’re working across the system to effect sustainable change.
Delterra is working in collaboration with the Climate & Clean Air Coalition, Global Methane Hub, and other partners on organic waste projects in the Global South, leveraging Delterra’s local connections to support cities in these efforts.
This includes the creation of waste profiles and evaluating corresponding emissions for organic waste (e.g., food waste, pruning waste).
We execute on pilot programs to understand viability of specific business cases, such as biomass generation and industrial composting.
Following pilot programs, we build and test the financial validity of organics diversions initiatives, identifying strategies that could successfully scale.
We work with cities to create detailed roadmaps for scaling pilot programs, incorporating factors such as infrastructure needs and technology opportunities.
